Explorer’s house history
This house was built by the patriarch Johan Olsen Cowshed towards the end of the 1800s. The shed had a horsebox, cow stalls and a pigeon loft.
When we look at the quality of the soil it’s not hard to imagine that it was hard work to provide enough food for the animals. The grass was cut in bays and inlets, and out on the islands; then the grass was transported here by boat and hung on drying racks.
